Medical Oncology is a specialty of internal medicine that deals with the diagnosis and, more specifically, the management and treatment of cancer. It is the medical oncologist who determines the proper choice of drugs as well as what is the most effective dose and schedule. They work in close collaboration with radiation therapists and surgeons to determine which combination of treatments offers the best outcome.
At St. Vincent’s Medical Center we have two areas where patients with cancer are managed and treated. On 7 East our 20-bed inpatient medical oncology unit, patients receive treatments that can be most effectively given in the hospital. The Ambulatory Infusion Center is a newly renovated outpatient facility designed for patients receiving treatment that does not require that they stay in the hospital overnight.

The medical oncologists at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, lead by Dr. Kenneth Dressler, division chief, have the training, experience, and skills for managing cancer and are committed to providing the highest quality cancer care.
